Favourite childhood memory
Riding the river rapids in my hometown on Vancouver Island. My generation was the last to grow up without mobile phones and spending those formative years by sea, mountains and crystal clear rivers is a gift I cherish.
Signature scent
Chanel No.19 or 1957 from Les Exclusifs. They’re both elegant, soft and sophisticated. I imagine Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy would have worn both.
Best career move
Going to Grazia in 2008 as Beauty Director at the height of its success. It made me a better journalist and taught me the art of a unique angle and a good headline.
Article you’re most proud of
I loved researching The Greyvolution at the end of the pandemic. It was a pivotal moment in beauty when women the globe over had to embrace their grey roots - it shifted the attitudes around ageist beauty ideals.
If you could only buy one make-up product what would it be?
NARS Complete Concealer. It’s unbeatable.
Cult beauty product that lives up to the hype?
Augustinus Bader’s The Cream. When it first launched Professor Bader told me it can double up as a cleanser, moisturiser, shaving cream, the lot. I used it in isolation for a month and my skin has never looked better. It cured my son’s acne too.
Desert Island beauty product?
SPF of course. The French and Aussies do the best ones. High factors with sheer non-greasy formulas.
Best investment you’ve ever made
My BB Italia Camaleonda sofas and my Chanel large classic bag which I’ve had for 20 years.
What would you do if you weren’t a journalist?
I’d be an interior designer or furniture designer. I pore over Architectural Digest daily and am forever rethinking my wall colours.
What does beauty mean to you?
It’s that magic chemistry of inner confidence and outer self-care. No one really wants to look like they did when they were younger, they mostly want to look healthy and well rested. A great haircut helps too.
